History of the Magick Spelling

I came across a reference to Jabez' prayer Manifestation Sigil as the prayer of pain because, according to the author, his name meant pain. Now, I'm not a translator, but I don't think this is accurate. It's my understanding that the name Jabez is a play on the Hebrew word for "pain" but has a different meaning.

Still, the comment got me to thinking about the possible relationship between blessing and pain. God's greatest blessing to us was the gift of his son, Jesus Christ. While this gift was given freely to all, with acceptance of the gift comes the obligation to become more like Jesus. In doing so, we are led to sacrifice our worldly desires and serve others. Surely these sacrifices are at times painful, but they are necessary if we are to grow into the abundant life God has planned for us.
